Health professions campaign against galamsey

Two major medical groups: the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GMLS) and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) have joined the campaign against galamsey

Galamsey, a crude way of mining gold have dire consequences on the health of the citizenry as a result of its negative effects on the environment: air and water pollution and land degradation. These negative then lead to malaria and respiratory distress diseases.

It’s worthy to note that, the health consequences of galamsey over weigh the economic benefits; thus, galamsey cannot be allowed to continue in the face of its glaring dire consequences.

In light of all the efforts and commitment by the three arms of government: executive, legislature and judiciary to bring the menace to a halt, the GMLS and the GMA demand that more stringent measures should be made part of this action to halt galamsey.
