NPP Kandahar boys chase out Tamale Teaching Hospital CEO again

A vigilante group affiliated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Monday chased out the Chief Executive officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and locked the office.

The group, identified as Kandahar boys has accused the Chief Executive, David Zaawumya Kolbila of mismanagement, corruption and nepotism.

The Kandahar boys alleged that Dr Kolbila has established a number of companies which he is using to lobby for supplies for the hospital.

Spokesperson of the group Baba Musah told Joy News they [Kandahar boys] would return if their concerns are not resolved.

They are demanding the removal of Zaawumya Kolbila and have sworn to come back to ‘evict’ any replacement from the President who is not “correct”.

“…we the youth, we go with truth…any other person that the President will appoint or nominate and that person is not correct, I swear heaven and earth we will come back to sack that person,” he said.

Joy News’ Martina Bugri reported that despite the controversy at the administrative level of the hospital, core activities of the hospital; doctoring and nursing activities were going on smoothly.

“Unless you are around the administration area, you wouldn’t know anything happened,” she reported.

This is the second time the youth group has invaded the hospital. In February 2017, they locked the then Chief Executive, Dr Prosper Akambong out of his offices as well.

They cited inefficiency by the hospital authorities for their action.

“Management of the Hospital has been very poor such that basic drugs and consumables needed for the day to day running of the facility is seriously lacking.

Patients are asked to buy basic items such as hand gloves, syringes and all items needed for their care, which are supposed to be catered for by the National Health Insurance Scheme,” they said at the time.
